Mediascope has unveiled key findings from recent Kids&Teens study about children’s online activity.

  • 90% of 4-5-year-olds use the internet, with more than 50% able to go online independently (without adult help). Declared Internet usage rises to 97% among 6-8-year-olds and reaches 99% for 9-11-year-olds.
  • Smartphones are the primary device for internet access. Even among preschoolers (4-5 years), every third kid already owns a personal smartphone. Ownership grows to 69% for 6-8-year-olds, 88% for 9-13-year-olds, and 92% for teens aged 14-17.
  • Digital skills develop quickly: by age 9-11, around 60% of kids can edit photos, almost 40% edit videos, and more than 25% dub videos or create stickers.
  • Around age 10, half of all children either already run a blog or dream of starting one. However, by 14 years, most teens say they don’t have or need a personal blog.
  • Among children aged 4 to 17, both boys and girls most frequently engage with blog content featuring product unboxings, life hacks, their peers lifestyle vlogs, and film or game reviews. However, distinct gender preferences emerge — boys demonstrate greater interest in myth-busting segments and fake content reveals, while girls show significantly stronger engagement with culinary channels and beauty-related blogs.
